Oxides
A plane of rhombuses with not quite random shades of green brighten as they grow closer to the copper origin point in the upper right. This piece is a representation of the catalytic process of oxidation of copper at the atomic level, aka what does rusting look like on an atom-by-atom situation. Each rhombus represents a different atom of copper, with the darkening shades of green showing the higher oxidation (rusted) state. This was inspired by a heavily mathematical class I took in graduate school and the beauty I saw in the course material.
